Alice JL Pierre is a bilingual writer and photographer based in Brighton (UK), where they are studying towards a PhD in Photoliterature. Alice’s work has always focused on the human body and all its possibilities as a canvas for art and emotions.
Of the images featured here, Alice states:
‘I decided to explore the theme of 'Belonging' with the particular couple formes by my friends Natasha and Thibault, because I wanted to portray a relationship where both individuals are still learning about each other, learning how to lean on one another, with a complicity and understanding of the complexity of their situation. Being long-distance and both from households where two different cultures had been brought together, their own sense of belonging has always been rooted not in a specific place, but in the relationships they encounter along their paths. It was also important for me to portray a healthy couple, at a time where my personal life contradicts the photographs that were made: healing from a toxic relationship, and often wondering where I belong, whether it is within myself or in a country that I had learned to live in through someone else.'
