_HUNGER_TILES_Georgia_McPherson.png

Georgia McPherson studied English Literature and Creative writing at The University of Brighton, winning The époque press award for her Creative Dissertation “Eaten or rotten: I am all mouth” – an exploration of metaphorical cannibalism and the Gothic body as a site of horror in poetry” in 2024. She has also been published by Gut Feeling Collective for her poetry.

Of the poems featured here, Georgina says:

‘The poems in “Angel Meat” explore female trauma of the mind and body through body horror and abjection, enacted by the Gothic figure of the cannibal, collapsing the boundaries of the internal and external self and birth, death and rebirth. Through metaphorical cannibalism, these confessional poems use flesh as a site of horror, transgression and nausea to portray themes of mental illness, love, sex and religion, through the endless act of eating and being eaten.’
